The application-specific bacteria in the product produce extracellular enzymes that degrade organic matter such as proteins in the application area. The products of this degradation are then taken into the bacteria cells and used for growth. Thus, the slow breakdown of these materials, which would otherwise result in the formation of many malodorous compounds, cannot occur and the odor is prevented at the source.

Relative Odor Control Ability of DLETE™ as Compared to Competitor Product

The relative ability of odor control products can be demonstrated in the laboratory. It uses the pungent odor of red fox urine, as used by hunters to disguise their own human smell. A small amount of the red fox urine is placed in disposable plastic containers. DLETE™ and other tested products are added via mini spray bottles, and the odor assessed by an odor panel using a scoring system from one to six representing a very weak odor to an extraordinarily strong offensive odor. Results for DLETE™ (dark blue bars) shows rapid and prolonged reduction of the odor compared to the control odor (light blue bars), which fades only slightly over 48 hours. A major biological competitor product (green bars) has much less effect on the odor compared to DLETE™.
